What is Americana Folk Art?

I use the term "Folk Art" as a simple way of describing the style and subject matter in my artwork. Folk Art, in general, is a type of art that originates from the common man. Naive, outsider, and pop art are sometimes grouped into this genre as well. I enjoy making paintings and prints that involve people which, I believe, is the essence of folk art.

I use the term "Americana" to give a context to the types of people and places in my artwork. Americana refers to the symbols, values, and experiences of American life.

Roots music plays a large role in my art as well. As a native Texan, I'm inspired by performers like Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Bob Wills, Robert Earl Keen and so many more. Blues music is also very special to me. The Delta Blues songs of Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, and Son House are timeless. The Texas Blues of Lightnin' Hopkins, T-Bone Walker, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Freddie King, and SRV can't help but move you. Then there's the Chicago Blues with Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf and so many more. Good music never dies and my art is a tribute.
